Huntsville is a city in Madison County, Limestone County, and Morgan County, Alabama, United States. It is the county seat for Madison County. Huntsville, located in northern Alabama’s Appalachian region, is the state’s most populous city.

Huntsville was founded within the Mississippi Territory in 1805 and became an incorporated town in 1811. Huntsville was the first capital of Alabama when it became a state in 1819. The city grew along the hills north of Tennessee River and added textile mills in late nineteenth century.
